Prune Juice Laxative for Constipation

Constipation happens. It happens to us all, young, and old.
Constipation is the buildup of waste (byproduct of what we consume) in the intestines over the usual time of digestion and elimination. When waste remains in the intestines for a long time, it can cause intestinal fermentation, irritate the digestive mucous membranes, cause putrefaction, and infest nearby organs. Diseases can then manifest.

Constipation can be temporary (acute), or it can be chronic. There are many reasons why constipation occur.
• Poor dietary habits (insufficient vegetable consumption, too much sugar, allergic reactions to food)
• Lack of sufficient fibers in the diet
• Insufficient water intake/dehydration
• Malabsorption of food
• Sedentary lifestyle
• Stress

A healthy frequency of elimination is 1 to 2 times per day. It isn’t alarming if that duration stretches a little, however, the goal is regularly emptying the bowels so that matter does not remain in the intestines resulting in toxification.

Prunes are a great source to turn to for relief of constipation. Since there is no contraindication for it, prunes can be used for two to three months targeting buildup in the intestines and regulating healthy elimination habits. I have also found that children accept prunes well to help with constipation, as it is gentle on the tummy.

Please always consult with your physician before beginning any new health treatment. Be sure to monitor bowel movements and stop use if it causes watery stools. Lots of water is also important whenever taking anything to help with elimination.

Simple Prune Recipe

Prune Juice Laxative for Constipation

Ingredients:
2 cups prunes
5 cups purified water
1 tsp slippery elm bark powder (optional)
1 tsp ghee or melted butter (optional)

Directions:
1. Soak prunes in water for 12 hours
2. Pour the soaked prunes and water into a blender and blend until a paste is formed. You can add more water if you wish to drink it down.
3. At this time, you can add the other optional ingredients if you prefer. These will add an even more intense effect.

Note
The dose for this mixture depends on the client and severity of constipation. Start with 1 tbsp of this drink warmed in the morning. Increase until desired results are apparent, up to a quarter cup.
This mixture can be placed in the refrigerator in a tightly sealed bottle for a few days without going bad.

Prunes: contains lots of fiber which stimulates intestinal peristalsis and sorbitol which helps loosen the stool and is a natural sugar.
Slippery elm bark: its mucilage-like consistency adds bulk and softens stool. It is also anti-inflammatory.
Ghee or melted butter: the effect of the oil makes the waste easier to pass through the intestines.
